Three vehicles allegedly hijacked by gunmen along the Emuoha axis of the East-West Road in Rivers State have been recovered, according to the Rivers State Police Command.

Friday Eboka, the state Commissioner of Police, told our correspondent this over the phone on Thursday.

On Wednesday night, Eboka was reacting to the alleged kidnapping of some occupants of vehicles traveling to Port Harcourt.

This came just days after three kidnapped travellers on the state's Kalabari-Emuoha Road were released.

Following an ambush in the Evekwu-Rumuodogo settlements in Emuoha, the gunmen redirected the passengers to a neighboring woodland around 8 p.m. on Wednesday.

A bus, a Sienna sedan, and another car were among the cars affected, according to a member of a local vigilante organization in the region.

However, Eboka said that they were all private automobiles, and that the crooks had abandoned them and gone.

“It is not actually an hijack. The three vehicles are presently at the Rumuji police station.”

“One of the drivers escaped. He was even the one that informed us about the incident.

“The cars were abandoned and they were all private cars, no bus was involved. No arrest yet, but we are still working on the information we have,” Eboka stated.

Recently, there have been numerous incidences of bus hijacking and abduction of passengers along the Emuoha axis in Rivers State.

Commercial drivers recently threatened to stop operating if the situation on the road, which they described as a death trap, persists.

The chairman of the Akuku-Toru Local Government Area, Rowland Sekiboa, was enraged by the event and requested that the Nigerian Army reposition its forces to the Emuoha-Kalabari Road.
